Rhon Hayes

Cofounder/Managing Director

Rhon Hayes is the Managing Director/Cofounder of GREEN DMV. GREEN DMV is an award winning environmental 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that educates low-income communities about environmental stewardship. GREEN DMV accomplishes its mission by harnessing environmental sound practices that benefit those on the margins as well as the community at large and empower them to make decisions that benefit the planet.

In 2007, Mr. Hayes co-founded GREEN DMV to address the most critical social, economic and environmental concerns by educating low-income communities about energy efficient and green job training opportunities. Mr. Hayes focuses on educating small businesses in disadvantaged communities, providing environmental education in underserved school districts and working with other non-profits and community groups to engage the most vulnerable residents in low-income communities around sustainability.

Mr. Hayes has been publically recognized for his work to empower communities of color to embrace environmentalism. Some awards include the U.S. EPA 2010 Environmental Excellence award and the 2011 Washington Life Magazine Green City Leader Award. Rhon has been publically recognized by U.S. EPA administrator Lisa P. Jackson for his environmental work in low-income and minority communities. Mr. Hayes also contributes commentary about energy efficiency, environmental policy and communities of color to national media outlets.
