This session builds on the earlier session on the traditional electrical grid infrastructure and identifies and describes new technologies and improvements to existing devices that enable Smart Grid capabilities. We will discuss devices and systems within the Smart Grid including the utility enterprise, end-user customer systems, distribution and transmission, and integrated communications network components. Panelists will explain key distribution system issues that relate to the pervasive deployment of electric vehicles, microgrids and distributed generation and storage. The session includes discussion of areas where regulatory policies impact Smart Grid technology deployments and initiatives.
