Creating the Smart Grid Roadmap

GridWeek Monday Sessions
Monday Apr/23/2007
14:30 - 16:00

This session will discuss the path of transition from today’s grid to a more intelligent, modern grid. It will stress that this is a national, comprehensive endstate that no single stakeholder or stakeholder group can achieve on their own. The presenters will give examples of the applications that some stakeholders are currently using in this space and point out how important it is that they implement their actions with the “end in mind” (the vision). For example, AMI, substation automation, distribution automation, DR, advanced relaying, Renewable Portfolio Standards, “green initiatives”, technical standards, architectures, etc. The participants will discuss the transition difficulties with stakeholders having different objectives - usually more short term than the endstate vision. However, by keeping everyone’s eyes focused on the endstate they can make better decisions as they implement their shorter term efforts.
