Development of a Public Message on Smart Grid

GridWeek Monday Sessions
Monday Apr/23/2007
13:00 - 14:30

What are the characteristics and functionalities of being a smart grid that can be clearly understood by the general public? What does a grid entail—for example, is it inclusive of power generation, power delivery, and end use? What do all these terms, “IntelliGrid,” “GridWise,” “Modern Grid,” “Grid Modernization,” etc. have in common with a smart grid, and what are the individual differentiators, if any? Should we convey each individual term to the general public? If so, what individual messages will be clear to the public? These are the questions to be addressed in this session. Through open dialog and a consensus-building process, we aim at developing the language for a public message on smart grid that will readily resonate about what it means and how it can affect our quality of living now and in the future. In addition, the delivery of the message—how and where—will also be discussed.
